Mycological construction materials
CoreCelium is developing sustainable construction materials based on mycological biopolymers for thermal and acoustic insulation purposes, thereby satisfying the growing demand for environmentally friendly materials in the construction industry. The mycological bio-composite materials developed by CoreCelium are inherently sustainable since they come from renewable sources, require low amounts of energy to produce, and can be biodegraded under the right conditions or recycled into feedstock for animals, packaging or core composites. By their very nature, mycological biopolymers are safe. The material is stable at high temperatures and under ultraviolet radiation. Additionally, the use of vegetative tissue prevents the formation of spores (an allergen and friable particle) as it can be rendered inactive before fruiting bodies form.
